Protein. Flagellin has strong antigenicity, which can be used for identification and typing of bacteria.
Escherichia coli flagella root structure pattern Escherichia coli flagella root structure pattern

Structure: Flagella grows out of the cell membrane and is free from the outside of the cell. It consists of three parts: the basic body, the hook and the filament. The G-bacteria (Gram-positive bacteria) basal bodies are composed of S and M rings, and the G-bacteria (Gram-negative bacteria) basal bodies are composed of L, P, S, and M rings. In E. coli, the L-ring is connected to the outer membrane of the cell wall, the P-ring is connected to the peptidoglycan layer, the S-ring is located in the periplasmic space, and the M-ring is connected to the cytoplasmic membrane, which are connected by a central rod.
