In general, the vulcanization curve can be obtained by plotting the vulcanization time with the tensile strength, elongation at break, fixed tensile stress and hardness of the vulcanized rubber. At present, the vulcanization curve is usually drawn directly by the vulcanization instrument. From the vulcanization curve, the entire process of vulcanization of the rubber compound can be observed. According to the different crosslinking conditions of the rubber, it can be divided into: vulcanization induction period, thermal vulcanization stage, flat vulcanization stage and oversulfurization stage. From the vulcanization curve, the scorch performance, vulcanization rate, optimum vulcanization time, vulcanization flatness and anti-sulfur reversion performance of the rubber compound can be obtained.

The parameters on the vulcanization curve, the various stages of vulcanization and their relationship are shown in Figure 2-8. It can be seen that at the vulcanization temperature, the torque starts to decrease, that is, the viscosity decreases, and then rises after reaching the lowest point. This indicates the beginning of vulcanization. As the vulcanization progresses, the torque continues to rise and reaches the maximum value.
