Layering refers to the internal defects formed when the steel plate and the steel pipe are rolled. Usually due to billet quality problems (shrink residue, bubbles, clamping, loosening) failure to weld when rolling steel plates and tubes. It can be separated into two or more layers, with different sizes of layered area. These defects can be found at the macro level on the cross-section. Layering caused by debris often needs to be processed (e.g. courgettes, elbows) before it is discovered. Layering can affect the performance of steel, so the steel plates that make boilers and pressure vessels do not allow strated defects. It can generally be tested by ultrasonic detection methods.
