Since the 1980s, the social history, cultural history, and global history of the West have followed, which has had a greater or less impact and influence on Chinese historiography. Correspondingly, Chinese historiography has also learned from each other's strong points and complemented each other's weaknesses in this process, meeting challenges and striving to achieve its own perfection. At the same time, the subjective consciousness of Chinese historians is also increasing under the situation of frequent interaction between China and the West, and constructing a new form of historiography based on China and inclusive has become a more urgent task for this generation of scholars.
For a long time, Chinese world history scholars have taken the study of foreign history and historical experience as their mission, and have become an effective bridge between Chinese and Western historiography. They can see the West from China as well as China from the West, so they have both the dual perspective of the main seat and the guest, and they can also experience the tension and collision between China and the West, the new and the old. This special position of Chinese world historians makes them more introspective in theory and practice, so as to shoulder greater responsibility in promoting the continuation of Chinese historiography from tradition to the present, from the local to the global.
Historically, Chinese historiography has always had the connotation and temperament of absorbing the strengths of all and the beauty of beauty. Just as there is no substitute relationship between traditional historiography and modern historiography, there should also be a good complementary relationship between Chinese historiography and Western historiography. It is believed that Chinese historians can take the old and the new as the scripture, and the East and the West as the weft, and weave a more splendid picture of Chinese historiography.
We should not only understand the emergence and development of new historiography from the inherent development context of the discipline of history, but also pay attention to the interaction between historiography and social science, and even the influence of certain international trends and trends, and regard new historiography as an answer to challenges inside and outside the discipline. In this regard, the historical methodological dispute between Germany and France around 1900, the influence of anthropology and linguistics since the middle of the 20th century, and the current trends in global history and transnational history are particularly representative.
