Why wetlands are an important aspect of environmental protection

Wetlands are an important part of the overall ecological environment of the earth, and due to the complex habitat of wetlands, the biological species of wetland ecosystems are rich and diverse.
1. Regulation of climate and hydrology
Wetland surface water, the bottom has good water retention, is a huge reservoir, wetland through strong evaporation and transpiration to send a large amount of water back to the atmosphere, regulate precipitation, improve the local climate. In addition, wetlands contain a large amount of decomposition of organic matter, which acts as a carbon sink rather than a carbon source, thereby reducing carbon dioxide in the atmosphere and playing an important role in slowing global warming.
Wetlands located in low-lying areas with flat terrain can accumulate a large amount of flood in a short period of time; plants, organic residues, peat, etc. in wetlands can absorb a large amount of water and block flow water and reduce the flow rate. Therefore, wetlands can play a role in reducing flood peaks, reducing flood flows, and regulating flood processes.
2. Natural gene pool
Because the wetland habitat is diverse and suitable for the survival of wild populations, it is an important and natural species gene bank with the function of protecting biodiversity.
3. Purification function
Wetland has a unique material circulation and energy flow, it through a series of physical, chemical and biological effects, to achieve the effect of purifying the environment, so it is known as the "kidney of nature" or "kidney of the landscape" wetland mainly by excluding nutrients in the water, intercepting suspended solids, degrading organic matter and other ways to play a role.
Wetlands are closely related to the survival, reproduction and development of human beings, and are one of the most biodiverse ecosystems in nature and one of the most important living environments for human beings. If it is destroyed, we will lose a lot, so people have to protect the wetlands.
